A classification of irreducible representations of finite general linear groups over a finite field has been obtained by Green and Zelevinsky. In this talk we describe an approach to classify irreducible discrete representations of infinite linear groups, based on Artin's theorem connecting discrete representations of topological groups and sheaves of modules over atomic sites as well as some recent development in representation stability theory.

李利平,湖南师范大学数学与统计学院特聘教授、院长,湖南省政协委员。本科毕业于清华大学,博士毕业于美国明尼苏达大学。主要研究范畴的表示理论与表示稳定性理论,在一般线性群的同余群的同调群的稳定界限、范畴的局部诺特性、无限组合范畴的表示与同调性质研究等课题上取得了具有国际影响力的成果,在Adv. Math., Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., Selecta Math., J. Lond. Math. Soc.等重要期刊发表论文30余篇,并主持多项国家及省部级基金项目。
